Formerly known as Acolytes followed by the label Altar Boys and now the proper term is Altar Servers. At one time the Ministry was strictly reserved for males, however in 1983 the Cannon Law was changed to allow girls and women to participate in the ministry.
An Altar Server has the privilege of serving God in a special way by assisting the Priest and/or Deacon during Mass and other liturgies. Being an Altar Server can be a faith building experience, we gain a deeper understanding of the Mass and its sanctity. Altar serving promotes positive character qualities such as responsibility and being part of a team. It is also a good beginning for getting children (young and old) actively involved in a parish Ministry. St. Vincent de Paul Parish has a strong Altar Server program headed by Miguel and Jayme Ascencio and under the direct guidance and supervision of Fr. Oliver Obele. Please contact the parish office @ 575-538-9373 for more information. We welcome and urge you to serve the Lord at the Altar in this rewarding, gratifying, and spiritually uplifting ministry!
